PhD Student | Dept of Integrative Biology | University of South Florida | Tampa | FL 33620 | hayeshoover@usf.edu

Hayes earned a BSc in Biological Sciences from Clemson University (2019), a Master of Public Health from the University of Arizona (2022), and a Master of Ecology and Evolution from Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam (2024). His work has spanned modelling and field-based disease ecology, environmental health education, and data analysis for community health. In alignment with the One Health approach, he has collaborated with environmentalists, medical doctors, zoologists, and ecologists on projects in multiple countries.

His current research focuses on using machine learning and mechanistic models to investigate how infectious diseases emerge and spillover to humans across large geographic areas. By examining potential outbreak drivers—including climatic, geographic, host demographic, and anthropogenic factors—he seeks to improve predictions and inform risk assessments.
